INIESTA TO CONTINUE WITH SPAIN

There were reports that the captain of the Spain national team Andres Iniesta was set to quit international football after they were knocked out of the Euro 2016 in France despite being among the favourites to lift the trophy.

Spain are straight two-time winner and were gunning for the third one until they knocked out by Italy in the Round of 16 as they didn’t finish top of their group.

The international community just witnessed World’s best player Lionel Messi say he would not play again after their second successive defeat to Chile in Copa America finals. The Argentine superstar has played in four finals but has failed to bring home a trophy for the country. It has left him disappointed and the last encounter made him say he would hang up his boots. Fans in Argentina are hoping he would rescind his decision but there were reports that Spain international Iniesta would also join him after their disappointing performance in France.

The player took to his Twitter account to post: “It is a disappointment for everyone. Back to become stronger. Thanks for everything.” The Sun also quoted the player as saying: “I’m lost for words. There’s nothing else to it. It’s time to think about the future.” Major reports claimed it was a hint at resignation from the international scene but the player has cleared the doubts. He says he would continue with the team.

The 32-year old is likely to continue until after the World Cup in 2018 and plans are underway to get a suitable replacement for him at Barcelona, as he ages. However, his performance in the last two seasons as been impressive. He ended the last campaign in great form and was outstanding in the final of the Copa del Rey against Sevilla.
