ENGLAND MOVE UP

The Three Lions have been gearing for the forthcoming Euro qualifiers next month. There are two matches to be played in October, the first one versus San Marino, while, the other one versus Estonia. There will be a lot of eyes on England’s performance in those two games as they are starting a sort of fresh era.

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are not there. Both of them are gone, finished. Wayne Rooney is the new captain and the new squad is going to be built around him only.

There will certainly be a couple of new faces in the defence. One player whom most of the people are backing to receive his maiden call up is the Southampton sensation Nathaniel Clyne.
The 23-year old has been the main reason of Southampton having great run this Premier League. Not only has he proved to be an absolute rock in the back line, whenever he has sensed an opportunity, he has moved forward and has often exposed holes in the opposition’s midfield and defence as well.

Clyne prefers playing right in the back line. That position in the Three Lions’ line up, in the last 7 years, has been occupied by Glen Johnson who is unfit at this point of time and that makes the case of the Saints’ defender even stronger.

Roy Hodgson, in the recent times, have tried to slot in the centre halves like Chris Smalling at the right back position at times, but, it has not worked. Those players have not looked at home there.

So, getting a specialist full back who is also in form for playing at right certainly sounds a great idea at the moment. But it remains to be seen whether Hodgson also thinks the same.
