Southend United’s victory against Walsall was particularly special for Ferdinand

Southend United’s latest league victory saw them claiming a 3-2 triumph over Walsall in a thrilling match that was played on March 18 of the ongoing year.

Walsall got the early lead as Franck Moussa scored 2 goals in the 1st half but Southend United responded by scoring 3 times during the final 40 minutes of the match.

Anton Ferdinand was one of the players that scored a goal during this match but despite being able to find the back of the net, the goal was not one of the reasons of why the 32 year old defender considers being a special game and it’s because his 1 month old daughter was actually in the stands.

“It was an emotional afternoon for me because it was my daughter’s first game so that was for her. To come back like we did showed real character and I think we showed people why we should be up there.

‘’That game is how it is when you play higher in that if you give people chances they will punish you. It’s not always the case at this level and you can sometimes get away with things but that didn’t happen here. We needed team spirit to get back into it and credit to the manager as well for keeping it the same at half-time and then deciding to change it.” Anton Ferdinand said as he voiced just how important this victory over Walsall was due to the fact that his month old daughter Lila was in attendance.

This 3-2 triumph over Walsall allows Southend United to snatch the 6th spot of the English League One and another reason of why this match was particularly symbolic for Anton Ferdinand is because he managed to score a goal which is something that the veteran defender has not been able to do since December of 2016.
